Tulip E-go: diamonds on the soles of your notebook
We're just not sure why companies insist that what people truly desire by way of enhancing their notebook computing
experience is a really fruity, or really fru-fru, new external case. All we ever want are the apparently more frivolous
features like some decent battery life, more storage space and a few extra connectivity options but hey, what do we
know. If you happen to be part of the "fast growing market segment" that Tulip wants to tap into, this line of
"lifestyle" notebooks could be for you. The Tulip E-go will be of Dutch design, and from the number of times they've
used the phrase "state-of-the-art technology" in their marketing copy you'd think they'd have the decency to provide
some specs — but no, my friends, these sorts of minor details pale in comparison to the knowledge that you, yes you,
could be the proud owner of a diamond-encrusted notebook. Peep it after the break.
[Thanks, Thad!]

correct me if i'm wrong but my friend bought a powerbook for style and performance and the alluminum case literally bent in, the screen made cracking noises, the video card got bent a bit and now it won't show up on monitors and projectors. all this for a little nicer looking laptop. the tulip-ego is a crappy idea. who really needs a lap top with diamonds in it. it's the computer for barbies. too bad all my sisters barbies lost there heads years ago.
P.S. looks a bit like the clamshell apple notebook, no?

From the website:
To ensure Easy Going the E-Go embodies the latest mobile technology; furthermore, the features, functions and benefits will meet the demands of the most advanced user. Next to A-brand components, the product also offers direct access buttons that will take the user to several handy applications: UMTS, television, connection to movie/music download sites, and even a camera with mirror application. Next to these features, this lifestyle device will also offer the Phoenix Firstware applications which offer on board recovery, a dynamic and secure backup system that does even work when Windows is not, and one click access to e-mail and contacts - without booting Windows, so the E-Go can also be used as a PDA.
The ubiquitous gray and silver laptop computer received a makeover with the unveiling of the E-Go, the worlds first line of lifestyle laptop computers. TDI H worked together on the E-Go project with professional partners like Inclosia Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company that specializes in developing enclosures, Marcel van Galen Design and Vanberlostudios. These parties have joined together to bring an element of fashion to devices that have been stylistically challenged for decades.

Sheer genius! Wonderful design, why hasn't anyone done this before? This is just more proof that Apple is where it's at...
Oh... What a minute, this isn't an Apple product?
How hideously ugly can you get? What moron thought of this? More proof that PCs suck...
EvanS @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM

The site is throwing all sorts of javascript errors and is unusable. Boo...
Buddy the Elf @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
Looks like an iPurse. Good way to eliminate a very large portion of your potential customer base.
Apple offered custom covers on some PowerBooks a LONG time ago. I think Dell just did that more recently also. Won't catch me accessorizing with one.

Oh boy, oh boy, it's a good think that the world is not ruled by the narrow minded techno egg-head that first commented this new product. Who cares about tech specs? who cares if people buy these computers? who care if this venture company fail or succeed. They are just the manifestation of human diversity, let them take their risks, responsabilities and keep your derogatory comments for yourself as long as this company does not harm others like you seem to enjoy doing. Remember, it's easy to sit fat and criticize. Not too smart Engadget!!
LYNN MULWEE WRIGHT @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
Hey send me one I'll take it. I think it's great but they need denim in the color sceam.
Sharon @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
I think it's so great, I'm definitely getting one. It will go with my new VW beetle cabriolet. Happy days he he
Jerry @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
Fully agree with Eric. Finally somebody has the guts to break with traditional design. And who cares about specs...: Turion 64 processor, over a Gb of memory, widescreen, dvd rewritable, 5 speakers with bass reflex, bluetooth, MCE, Phoenix trusted apps and even digital television as a standard. Unfortunately they will launch it in Q1 06, I'm surely gone get one!
Victoria @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
I think its awesome! We all need color in our life. If you don't like it don't buy it. Although some think they have limited their customer base, you could be very wrong. I am a retailer in the fashion area and I am very certain the E-go will be a huge seller as long as whats inside works ok too.
Wannbe Steve @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
I think its apple faking!

Im liking the Tulip EGo notebook, providing it did nothing stupid like the laptop i have, freezing for no apparant reason and the so called 'extra life' battery it possesses lasts no longer than an hour anymore. It looks good, and sounds good from the spec's on the website. I would buy one - being a fashion journalist, lugging around an unsightly black notebook isn't 'hip' anymore. . . bring in the new i say.
(it is clear however the majority of you know a thing or two about computers, i use my laptop for various simple functions, im sure the Tulip would manage)

I really like the idea of bringing beauty and brains together in a laptop. I want to know when and where to purchase one.
