Digismart turns handhelds into projectors

While companies like Toshiba and Viewsonic are hitting us with portable LED-based projectors, Australia's Digislide has an entirely new concept: incorporating the projector into handheld devices, including cellphones, GPS units and PMPs. At the Demo conference this week, the company showed off its Digismart technology, which uses a miniature wide-angle lens to project images as large as 11x17-inches from a distance of about 3 feet. The company hopes to incorporate the technology into devices and add-on components by the end of the year.

Combine this with that virtual keyboard and a miniture fuel cell for decent battery life, and hide a full-fledged computer inside, and I can turn my ordinary looking camera phone into a computer workstation wherever I can find a flat surface with a flat wall behind it!

That Nokia 6620 can do ANYTHING! I love it :)

Seriously though, it would be very cool. Very, very cool to have. Depends of course on the res though. I already use my 6620 for watching TV or something else on a road trip. Now if it were 11x17, hell yeah.

Following the idea of ditching the desktop pc in favour of an all powerful mobile device might be a bit nearer now. So if the mobile projects you a 'screen' from one side, wouldn't it be great to have a keyboard projected down onto your desk? The video on their website is a render (well spotted), but there was a working model presented at DEMO 06. Pretty cool stuff in my opinion.

Now finally. Friends of mine discussed that topic several years ago. But those days were no efficient LEDs available.

So that that technology's now finally available is great. I think, a next step could be to drop the built-in screens, to get the cellulars finally really small.
