Sony's UX latest to get naked

You must know by now how much we adore gore n' guts of new toys -- especially those particularly small, compact devices that boggle the mind as to how they fit all that junk inside. One thing we didn't realize about Sony's UX UMPC Micro PC was that it was so freaking thick, but that said, it's still something of a little marvel of engineering that they got all that gear into a package as small as the UX appears to be. So sate yourself and look into the delicate, fragile inner workings of a device we're sure could not possibly be properly reassembled after being torn down.

Hmmm, the hard drive looks like the 20 gig Toshiba T20MK2006L. For those people that get the 30 gig version I guess Sony puts in the Hitachi 1.8" 30 gig disk.

Looking forward to when the flash RAM version comes out in another month and a half in Japan. No doubt amazingly fast access times without the clunky spindle to deal with!

I think Jan got it back together again. Looks easy enough with only one major ribbon cable between the screen/keyboard and motherboard. After all, I got my HD-DVD player back again after it was dissected, and that was about 10 ribbon cables:

Its about time something decent comes out of Sony. The design looks great. I wonder if it will use X-brite on top of the touch screen. I wonder what the battery life will be like and cost. Great job Sony!

My imate Jasjar flew out of my pocket into a fast flowing stream the other day. Luckily I managed to fish it out. I took the battery out and went straight home. Thanks to a service manual I found on the internet, I was able to take it apart, dry it out and put it back together again. And it worked!
However, despite taking photos as I went along, I still managed to end up with a little black rubber thingy left over at the end! No idea where it goes or what it does. But as I always say, if the thing works then the leftover bits couldn't have been important.

I once replaced a seatbelt mechanism in an old '81 Corolla, but the replacement from the junkyard had the wrong color belt. After all was said and done, I managed to get the matching color belt in, but had extra parts. The belt still worked like a charm, but I tended to have people sit in the next seat over, you know, just in case....

Called the U71P. Looks an awful lot like a UMPC VAIO to me. Especially with the fankey diplayed on the screen. Does anyone have more info on that model?

The u71p was the previous model, also see u50/u70 and 750p (USA model). It had no keyboard and a 5 inch screen. I think its fair to say most people had input problems with the device.

#8, I am pretty sure they got it wrong. You can see here on the official site http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Style-a/Product/U/index.html . Scroll a bit down, and at the 4.5 inch header you can see the text 1024*600
