Opera hits the OLPC XO
It looks like those not satisfied with the OLPC XO laptop's pre-loaded browser will have another, less open source option at their disposal whenever they manage to get their hands on one of the little green machines, with the Opera team reporting that their browser "runs beautifully" on it. Getting it running in the first place, however, took a slight bit of effort, requiring them to enter the somewhat hidden shell mode and install the browser from the command prompt. Once that business was taken care of, they went into full hyperbole mode, with Opera CTO Håkon Wium Lie saying that seeing Opera run on the OLPC for the first time was a "revelation" and that "no browser has ever been more beautiful" -- due in no small part to the screen's 200 dpi resolution. Not so revelatory, however, is the browser's ability to handle extensive Javascript, which apparently caused the laptop to freeze on occasion, though they say they're working on that, as well as an OLPC skin so it won't look too out of place next to the other apps.[Via Slashdot]

They lie, Opera will never be beautiful.
I never knew Joe Pantoliano was so into the OLPC and Opera.
First time I looked a this, I thought that was Teddy from Memento.
Damn you all to hell, I come out here to make a funny Joey Pants comment and I am late

3 posts already about him! there goes my evil-guy from matrix joke.
That's the fucking guy that sold everyone out in "The Matrix". I hate that guy. Now he's all like "Here's that laptop they were looking at when I pulled those plugs out of their heads."
How about this idea for the OLPC program:
Many people in the 1st world want one. I'd buy one for more than 150 bucks and i think they are ideal for kids in the 1st world as well as some adults (with small fingers maybe)
Then . . . . how about if they make two colour versions. They sell a black one for example for $300 (double the price) with the promotion that for every one we in the 1 world buy one is given for free to a child in a 3rd world country. That way their governments won't have to pay anything at all for at least some.
I think at least 1 million of us in the 1st world would pay $300 for a black or differently coloured (to avoid charity ones being sold in the 1st world) OLPC so that would be 1 million that go free to a child in a developing country.
What say ye all??????
Agreed
Anybody else not realize that the OLPC's were so small? Hopefully 3rd world children have good eye site and small hands...
