Alienware offers Area-51 m5550 "Quick Ship" laptop
While Dell is still having trouble shipping one of its most desirable laptops, its subsidiary Alienware looks to be having no such troubles with its Area-51 m5550 laptop, and it's now offering a new "Quick Ship" version that it's promising to get to you even sooner. While you won't be able to configure it to your heart's content like other Alienware systems, your impatience will still net you a pretty well-equipped system, including a 15.4-inch display, a T7200 Core 2 Duo processor, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and an 8x dual layer CD-RW/DVD±RW burner. If that'll do, you can get your order in now for $1,599, which includes a 48-hour shipping guarantee.

Does this have that new 1920x1200 screen? What are the deal with those anyway? 15.4" 1920x1200 laptop screens, and the higest 22" I can find is 1680x1050

Laptop screens are usually closer to your eyes.

That doesn't really explain these 15.4" WUXGA screens which seemed to come out of nowhere and are only in a few products (mostly Dell and Alienware)

That thing is so overpriced for what you get, its ridiculous. You would have to be REALLY impatient to settle for that. Sager and Asus make much better similar PC's for hundreds less.

Not to ruin anyone's hopes, but I have one of these machines at work. It's spent weeks in the repair shop, crashes all the time, and true to Alienware customer support, they won't replace the lemon. The video card has been replaced, the motherboard twice, the memory three times, and I still can't use it. I wish I had gotten a Dell XPS which everyone else has here at work. Even though Alienware is owned by Dell their customer support is no where near as good.
This is the second Alienware laptop I've used, one I own, the other work owns. Both looked great when I first got them, but within weeks they had to be sent back to be repaired and have ultimately been huge disappointments.

I'm curious as to why Alienware laptops are in the news ever day yet they have not release anything new, and when i mean by new, i mean with new components and not just a new marketing campaign (like the m5550 back to school campaign) every one else is coming out with Santa Rosa processors and extreme mobile processors and CHEAPER and Alienware is a year old chips with that’s slower, and cost twice as much.
I wonder if they have been giving the reporters free laptops.
