Toshiba updates Satellite M200 notebook to Core 2 Duo
Toshiba recently updated the M200, a 14.1-inch widescreen notebook aimed at sweet spot between the gaming behemoths and the sub-notebook styles of laptop. Kicking out the old Core Duo, the new M200 features a 14.1-inch 1280x800 widescreen display, a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, an X1300 Radeon graphic card, 2GB of SDRAM, a 160GB Hard Disk drive, and a DVD burner multidrive. Alongside these specs are a/b/g/n wireless networking, and a 1.3 Megapixel webcam up top. Nothing particularly special, but then again these kind of updates never are.

In the picture, the WMP visualizer makes it look like the screen on the laptop is cracked.

That is supposed to distract you from the ugliness of the laptop.
jaken19 @ Aug 18th 2007 9:59PM
better looking toshiba then the older ones!
Ted Brown @ Aug 18th 2007 10:16PM
Still looks like a cookie that was given too much baking soda.

SDRAM?
david @ Aug 18th 2007 10:27PM
wow, welcome to early last year. why do people put up with non apple laptops?
Ted Brown @ Aug 18th 2007 10:50PM
Nice shitpost. Obviously if one PC manufacturer updated their shitty laptop to core 2 duo 8 months late then they all did. Apple just finished updating their line to Core 2 Duo recently so it's not like they were on top of the game either.

MBP had C2D last October and was rumored to be updated just a few months after the original CD models.
The fact is that the laptop market is flooded with expensive, ugly, huge pieces of shit that use older technology and pass it off as new and cutting edge.
Yay Toshiba!
Wolfticket @ Aug 19th 2007 12:04AM
That explains why macbooks are so expensive for the same spec.
Yay Apple!
jaken19 @ Aug 19th 2007 8:52AM
MBP does look ugly in my opinion. People like you give people a bad rep for using MAC!

the M200 is part of their "stylish and high technology" line and start a few hundred $ more than MB.

"a 14.1-inch widescreen notebook aimed at sweet spot between the gaming behemoths and the sub-notebook styles of laptop"
Mr. Quilty-Harper seems to like superfluous descriptions a lot. 14" used to be the most popular size for a laptop, before it was made redundant by:
1. (really) ultra-portable 12"
2. decent screen estate of 15"
3. compromise between the two: 13" widescreen
but the above statement sounds like Toshiba discovered some previously unknown territory.

Sorry for being picky, but that's a Satellite A200... not M200.
The M200 is in the Portege Line and is a tablet PC.
FRiC @ Aug 19th 2007 2:03AM
There are both Satellite M200 and Portege M200. Also, the Satellite A200 is 15.4" and the Satellite M200 is 14.1".
The biggest difference with the Satellite M200 and previous generation is that it no longer has Harman Kardon speakers, but the one in the image shows the logo.

You're right... I've been victimized by Toshiba's stupid numbering system. I didn't notice the Satellite M200 on toshiba's site right away.
DrWatson @ Aug 19th 2007 11:54AM
Sorry guys, but Windows Vista is unbearable on 1280x800, why doesn't Toshiba even offer a better resolution in the 14" and 15.4" screen sizes like Dell does?
acidzburns @ Aug 19th 2007 12:21PM
Are you sure its not x2300?
Mike @ Aug 20th 2007 8:28AM
Does this play HD DVD... I thought all new Toshiba's were coming with HD DVD's
piet @ Aug 28th 2007 1:13AM
I have one right now and its a cool machine although vista is a bit slippery to use compared with XP. Battery could be longer lasting though

The Satellite M200-ST2002 also features a new technology; the Intel Turbo Memory. Comparing it with the market, you get much more from toshoba for your buck.
